Proposed Vision Statement for Digital Resources

2 Leave a comment on paragraph 2 0 (F)AIC envisions a digital landscape in which all conservation and collection care professionals have access to, the ability to utilize, and the means to put into place, maintain and preserve the digital tools required to adequately protect our cultural heritage.

3 Leave a comment on paragraph 3 0 We append to this statement our definition of “digital tools”:

4 Leave a comment on paragraph 4 0 Our definition of ‘tool’ needs to be very inclusive, and must include digital communications such as blogs, websites, email lists and other online communities, and social media; server software such as databases, asset management systems, and collections management systems; physical hardware such as imaging systems (from consumer-grade to high-end, scientific systems), environmental control/monitoring devices, and scientific instruments; technical support, training, and services related to all those tools; and institutional policies that encourage and support sharing and open discussion of leading-edge conservation practices, even while those practices, and conservators’ understanding of them, may be in active development.
